Week 21 & 22 – It’s A Boy!

Standard

We went for another doctor’s visit, and found out that the baby is a boy. This is good news for my conservative in-laws as the baby will continue the family name. Not so good news for my modern mom who already has a grandson from my brother and was pining for a granddaughter to spoil. And for us? We had no preference so it’s all good news, what matters is the baby is healthy.

Experienced Mom’s husband told us not to find out the sex of the baby, otherwise “you would buy everything in pink or everything in blue like crazy.” Well, we sure would like to know in advance whether it’s a boy or a girl, so we can prepare the name (update coming soon). It’s convenient for us that it’s a boy, because most of our friends have boys too – I practically don’t need to buy any clothes! Our baby can wear hand-me-downs from our friends’ children until he realises that mommy and daddy never buy him new clothes and shoes! Read the rest of this entry

Week 20: A Milestone

Standard

Wheewwww… a new milestone in our growing family: I’m officially half-way through my pregnancy. The bump is there, throbbing every now and then, my appetite’s good although sometimes I want to eat unhealthy stuff, very few nausea… all in all, things are looking good even though nowadays I have to carefully arrange my sleeping position and cannot move as fast as before. I realise that I’m luckier than most women as my pregnancy can be categorized as an easy one. I also chose not to think about it too much and just go with the flow, I don’t let myself suffer.

I’m now starting to freak out… the delivery date is now much closer than 3 months ago! Will I ever be ready? Read the rest of this entry

Week 19: The Alien Moved!

Standard

I am trying to be as active as possible. I take the dogs out more, I do household chores more, and I exercise more. Every thing I do, I try to think of how good it would be for the baby. I’m gaining weight slowly, and my middle area is quite thick now that bending over is really difficult. I’m now almost 58 kg, and I dread the day I hit 60.. and moreover, the day I will weigh more than hubby.

I swear, each morning I wake up and find my tummy slightly bigger than the day before. Nowadays the bump looks quite significant, and I’m surprised at how hard my tummy is. Experienced Mom said that it will be much harder later in the pregnancy, “hard as a wall” was the way she put it. Gosh.. no wonder I can’t bend over. I also notice more hair on the chest and tummy area, is this a normal part of the pregnancy or should I blame the anti-stretchmark cream that I religiously apply twice a day? I don’t want to end up being a hirsute mama. Read the rest of this entry

Week 17 & 18: The Monster is Awaken

Standard

It’s official now – none of my pants fit. I wore my favorite khaki shorts the other day and found that I couldn’t clasp the hook, so I just zipped it up and let the upper part hanging. This nearly caused an embarassing accident as the zipper went down on its own, but thankfully I managed to catch it before the pants left my waist. It’s funny how I haven’t gained a lot of weight but everything seems to be concentrated on the waist and butt area, it’s like my body is preparing a cushion for the tiny parasite in my tummy.

I went to Bandung and Jakarta recently where I bought the dreaded maternity shorts, with extra waist and elastics. All my normal clothes now occupy the obscure corner in my closet while maternity clothes take over. I didn’t buy many clothes because Single Mom gave me a lot of hand-me-downs, which I’m totally okay with since I won’t be wearing them forever. These days I exist with tank tops and shorts, it’s so bloody hot here! Read the rest of this entry
